« I'm here to keep those creatures from getting off this island. I brought you along because I might just need your help. »

Valerie

Valerie Constantine is Jack Carver's client who hired him to take her to the archipelago in Micronesia. She is an outgoing, confident and rather mysterious woman, who leaves the player wondering if there is more to her life than she gives on.

She claimed to be a photo journalist working for Exotic Travel Magazine intent on photographing WW2 Japanese ruins. Upon arrival at the archipelago, she departed on a jet ski leaving Jack alone on his sailboat Medusa. Soon after, Jack's boat was sunk by mercenary soldiers. Later, when he wakes up in an abandoned Japanese bunker, Valerie is already captured by the mercenaries.

When Jack comes across a cellphone in an ammo cache, he is contacted by a stranger called Doyle who mentions Val as Jack's companion. The man reckons that Valerie might be kept on a carrier, thus Jack sets out to find and rescue her. There, he overhears a radio conversation between a mercenary and his commander, Crowe, who mentions ""the bunker" as the place where the woman is being transported.

From the Bunker, Valerie is about to be relocated to another island (possibly Pagao or Jakutan), but Jack gets to the helipad and, in the nick of time, manages to grab the helicopter's wheel. While the mercenaries accompanying Valerie are distracted, she seizes the opportunity to attack them. This chaotic brawl results in the pilot's death so the two are forced to jump into the sea. When Valerie emerges from the water, she introduces herself to Jack as a CIA agent who chose to hire him in view of his past as a Special Forces operative. Her true objective was to verify a fellow agent's status with whom they lost contact weeks ago, namely Harland Doyle.

The reunion does not last long as Jack and Valerie split up to carry out their tasks. While Jack proceeds to destroy the regulator, she releases hordes of Trigens from Krieger's main archives to keep the security forces busy. Much to her surprise, amongst the now freely roaming mutants were also mutated humans who exhibit far more superior abilities than their ape counterparts and pose a much greater threat. Valerie ends up stuck in the facility overrun and surrounded by ferocious Trigens until Jack fights his way through and reunites with her again.

After Jack kills Crowe, Valerie picks up a paper sheet from his body which indicates the location of the facility where mutagen is manufactured. It also provides the arming code for a nuclear bomb stored by Krieger in case he needed to cover up the evidence of his activity. The pair breaks into a nearby mercenary camp to steal the bomb and take it to the mutagen factory. Before arming the nuke, Doyle advises them to inoculate themselves with a serum, warning that the detonaton could potentially expose them to the effects of mutagen. Accordingly, they take the precautions, destroy the facility and leave hurriedly, but end up knocked unconscious by the blast. Shortly afterwards, they are captured by Krieger. Jack gets kicked off a helicopter onto an island overrun by Trigens, whereas Valerie remains aboard.

She is not seen again until Jack finds her alongside Krieger in his facility built on a volcano. Just like Jack and Krieger, Val has been infected with the Trigen mutagen. In her frail condition, she is unable to fight. After defeating Krieger, it soon becomes obvious to them that they were tricked by Doyle into infecting themselves thinking that they received shots meant to prevent the infection. Jack takes Val to safety at the docks before confronting Doyle. When Doyle is killed, Jack returns to Val with the real antidote and they escape the island on a yacht. Aboard, Jack gives her an antidote shot and they both are cured from the mutagen. Valerie, lying in bed, looks to her left and sees all the files documenting Krieger's research, dubbed "Project Far Cry".
