The Flare Pistol, also known as a Signal Pistol, is a weapon in Far Cry 2. Not a combat weapon, the pistol is designed to fire flares upwards into the air, usually to signal for assistance or for illumination at night.

CharacteristicsEdit

The Flare Pistol can be used to start fires in grassy areas in order to make enemies keep their distance. Occasionally you will see an enemy shooting a flare into the air. The purpose for this is to call in backup, so try to kill everyone quickly or kill them quietly to avoid this. The Flare Pistol has little real value as an actual weapon, so it is useful to have an automatic weapon in either of the other two slots.

If the player fires into the air, it will still call enemies to the present location. This can be helpful if you are on foot and need a vehicle.

This weapon can also be used to incapacitate any enemy vehicles. If an enemy assault truck comes by, you can take out both the gunner and the driver by placing a flare through the front window and into one of the seats. If you happen to hit the front, it will just cause the car to smoke, making enemies unable to follow.

TriviaEdit

• Originally, it was supposed to be possible for the player to form alliances with the factions in the game. Upon doing so, the flare pistol could be used to signal for allied reinforcements during combat. This feature was removed during development, leaving the flare pistol relatively useless.
• If the flare explodes under a vehicle it will kill anyone in it but not harm the vehicle itself.
• Due to the main practical uses of the flare pistol being starting fires and signalling enemies, the accuracy upgrade for the weapon is a waste of diamonds. Though since it only costs one diamond, it may as well be bought if the player has nothing else they wish to spend it on.
