Fc4-kukri

The Kukri is a melee weapon in Far Cry 4 and Far Cry Classic. It's used the same way as the Machete in Far Cry 3. Kukri is also available in Far Cry.

The Kukri (Nepali: खुकुरी khukuri, Hindi: kukrī) is a Nepalese knife with an inwardly curved edge, similar to a machete, used as both a tool and as a weapon in Nepal and neighboring countries of South Asia. Traditionally it was, and in many cases still is, the basic utility knife of the Nepalese people. It is a characteristic weapon of the Nepalese Army, the Royal Gurkha Rifles and of all Gurkha regiments throughout the world, so much so that many English-speakers refer to the weapon as a "Gurkha blade" or "Gurkha knife".

It is sometimes made out of truck springs, which are usually a 5160 steel, a type of spring steel with a carbon content of 0.55–0.65%, manganese 0.75–1.00% and bit of chromium 0.70–0.90%. The blade length generally ranges from 12 inch to 18 inch with blade thickness up to 0.5-0.6 inches thick.

The blade is deferentially hardened by pouring water on red hot blade edge which is usually brings hardness to 60 HRC while spine is left at around 40 HRC. This gives the blade an excellent balance of hardness and toughness.

Far Cry[]

The kukri is Jack Carver's only melee weapon. If there is no land nearby and you intend to slash enemy infantry swimming in the water, using the kukri is recommended, since firearms cannot be used while swimming.

While on foot, it should be used either as a last resort or to kill enemies who are unaware of the player's location. There are multiple kukris throughout the game, but only one at a time may be carried. This implies that the Mercenaries stationed around the islands use kukris, even if they never wield it in combat.

Far Cry 4[]

The kukri is Ajay Ghale's primary melee weapon. In the prologue of Far Cry 4, he takes it off of a dead Golden Path member's body, using it as his main weapon until he gets his hands on a gun. A single blow from the kukri can momentarily stun an enemy, allowing for a second fatal blow. This is not recomended, as a soldier can very easily strike and stun you in return. The kukri is most useful for stealthy takedowns and clean kills, granting double the skins from an animal and a small award of Karma. Beheaders, Hunters, and Butchers also use the kukri in combat, but theirs cannot be equipped.

In the Arena, the kukri deals a one hit kill for most enemies, save for animals and heavy gunners. Takedowns are still preferred, as they net 25 points as opposed to the 10 points you'd get if you killed an enemy normally. If the Hurk's Redemption DLC is downloaded, the kukri will be replaced with the Butcher's Machete. It will not replace the kukri outside of the arena.

Kalinag the Seeker uses the tooth of a demon as a substitute for a kukri, and it is functionally the same as the base kukri. Butchers and Lurkers can be killed with one shot from the blade, but the Scorcher can only be killed by the blade in a takedown.

Trivia[]

  • In the Map Editor, it can be equipped when you have activated the Four Empty Slots or the Melee Only option, but it is very rare.
  • This weapon is automatically used in all takedown animations.
  • The Golden Path's logo consists of two kukris crossed underneath a sun.
  • In Sabal's Ending, the soldiers executing Amita's supporters use kukris to slit their throats.
  • Ajay seems to keep his kukri in a holster on his left leg, save for the Demon Fish QTE( Which was reused from Far Cry 3, so that makes sense).
  • Far Cry Classic does not require a separate slot for knifes. The blow happens automatically, not unlike Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4.
