Boomer is a dog and one of three Fangs for Hire in Far Cry 5. He can be recruited by completing the main story mission Man's Best Friend. Players will first need to liberate Rae-Rae's Pumpkin Farm in Holland Valley to unlock the mission.

He returns in Far Cry 6 under the name "Boom-Boom". Players can find him in a shipping container, and can be recruited afterwards as an Amigo.

Biography[]

Boomer is a regional dog champion; this fact makes John Seed attempt to capture him and deliver him to his brother Jacob, as he could be useful to the cult against the Resistance when used in Jacob's Judge program. His owners were murdered by the Peggies before The Deputy could arrive. However, Boomer had not yet been shipped off to Jacob, which allowed the deputy to rescue him.

Boomer returns as Boom-Boom in Far Cry 6, having been shipped from Hope County to Yara between the events of Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 5[]

Main article: Man's Best Friend

After recruiting Boomer, Dutch will contact the deputy and give his praise of Boomer, saying that, "He'll watch your back better than any man ever could.", a reference to Boomer's unique skill, Pointer, which automatically spots all nearby enemies and wildlife. When Boomer senses cultists or wildlife "hostile and non-hostile" he'll make a low growl and start sniffing the ground towards the direction of the presence. When he stops and stands up whatever he was tracking will be tagged.

He can be sent inside an outpost without being attacked, and Cultists will ignore him until he attacks them.

Boomer's additional perk, Retriever, allows him to search bodies for extra supplies, even if the body has already been searched by the player.

Far Cry New Dawn[]

A grave dedicated to Boomer can be found in the game, in the crypt of the Lamb of God Church, now known as the New F.A.N.G. Center. He is one of the only Far Cry 5 characters confirmed dead in New Dawn.

Far Cry 6[]

Boomer returns in Far Cry 6 and can be recruited as an Amigo. Dani Rojas finds him trapped inside a shipping container while searching for American weapons. A letter in the interior reveals that Hurk sent him off to Yara in hopes that he'd have a better life there than in Montana. Afterwards, Dani names him Boom-Boom.

Gameplay[]

The first trick every pup learns in Montana: retrieving resources from dead enemies' bodies.

In addition to his starting perk, Fetch, Boy, Boomer has three additional perks that can be acquired through challenges.

  • Pointer - Tap into your fuzzy friend's animal instincts: mark the locations of enemy troops and animals to plan a sneak attack.
  • Expert Tracker - A life of tracking gives Boom Boom an extra edge, allowing him to tag targets from further away and help you plan better for stealth.
  • Thick Coat - This rough and tumble boy can withstand more damage with his thicker seasonal coat. Good luck washing him, though.
