The Cab Driver is a character in Far Cry 2.

Biography[]

Not much known about the cab driver as he doesn't even officially have a name, but what is known is that he taxis people around for a living, he's a native of the UAC and he's possibly a pro-UFLL sympathizer or at least the very least anti-APR as he shows some disdain towards APR soldiers during a brief stop at a checkpoint. He has a brother who fled the country after a brush fire destroyed his property.

Role in-game[]

He takes the player from the Airfield in Leboa-Sako to a hotel in Pala. Along the way, he initiates a conversation with the player. He points out a plane taking off from the airfield and mentions how it's probably the last one out of the UAC, since now only wealthy people can escape the country. He also has a minor incident with a speeding car, and he briefly slows down to warn some refugees heading to the airfield that the planes won't be coming back.

As they head to Pala, they briefly stop due to a buffalo blocking the road. After that they encounter a wildfire in the area and this causes the cab driver begins to recount a story about his brother and how he once owned a farm and a bungalow before a brush fire burned them down. He mentions that his brother then left the country, but he thinks that he will come back. He soon turns on the radio which is broadcasting a UFLL propaganda radio station, but he soon turns it off after coming up to an APR checkpoint. He then jokes that "they must not be fans of the DJ". After the checkpoint, he laments about the foreign mercenaries pillaging his home country. On their way, they encounter a convoy of troops which prompts the cab driver to try to ease the rising tension by saying the soldiers "keep to themselves".

Just before entering Pala, they encounter a group of soldiers torching some shacks. He tells the player not to be concerned as they're "just boys letting off steam." As they enter Pala, the player starts to experience a malaria attack. As they arrived the hotel, the cab driver notices this and helps the player to their hotel. He is never seen again afterwards.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first character the player encounters in the entire game.
  • The cab he drives is a fully convertible Jeep. This is available to drive in-game, but also there is a Jeep with a hard top roof and a Jeep with a sunroof. This is probably so that the player can take a better look at the new environment during the intro, as the roof would obstruct some of the view.
