« I'm sacrificing our liberties for peace later. You can either get in line or get out of the way. »

Amita to Ajay (Player determined)

« A vicious child of the North who has forsaken her home and taken up arms against Kyrat. Allied with Sabal, she forms the lumbering two-headed elephant at the head of the Golden Path. Considered armed and dangerous. »

King Min's Kyrat

Amita is one of the deuteragonists of Far Cry 4. Along with Sabal, she is one of the leaders of the Golden Path. Unlike Sabal, who is more rooted in the past traditions of Kyrat, Amita urges for progress and is more interested in modernizing the country. She is one of two hidden antagonists in Far Cry 4, along with Sabal.

Background[]

Amita is from the North of Kyrat. When she was six years old, her parents told her she had to get married; child marriage is traditional and commonplace in Kyrat, which also affected Ishwari Ghale , who was born in 1968 and her wedding was in 1981. This experience influenced Amita's hatred of Kyrati tradition.

Amita has no respect for Mohan Ghale - while Sabal calls Ajay 'son of Mohan', Amita tends to bring up his mother Ishwari instead. She views Kyrati tradition as oppressive and backwards. She is instead the leader of the Golden Path's modern faction. She is considered the group's first official female member, and is the reason why women are now allowed to join the Golden Path, against Mohan Ghale's original wishes.

Amita realizes that the Golden Path is failing because they are waging a war they cannot afford to perpetuate. Kyrat's infrastructure is limited and weak after decades of war, and the country cannot be rebuilt without a firm financial foundation. To this end, she believes in using Kyrat’s thriving drug trade to fund the Golden Path - although she recognizes its dubious morality, she states that being 'morally bankrupt' is still "better than being literally bankrupt."[1] Unlike Sabal, she is never shown to engage in the local religion, and has no religious reservations about growing opium.

Along with the drug issue, Amita is also head to head with Sabal over the installation of Bhadra as the next Tarun Matara. She sees the practice as robbing Bhadra and other young girls of a good education and a social life. If made leader she believes destroying Jalendu Temple would liberate the women of Kyrat (including Bhadra) and free the country from outdated traditions.

Sabal's idolisation of Mohan, despite him marrying a 13 year-old as an adult, further divides the two leaders. She believes that leaving behind outdated Kyrati traditions and religion is the only way to ensure a stable future for the country.

Amita's desire to move Kyrat away from their faith and modernize the country at the expense of traditional Kyrati values drives away Sabal and others who find these things still hold value. On the other side, Sabal's drive to re-install and support the old traditions of Kyrat without being willing to accept criticism on the harm these traditions can do, divided the Golden Path and drove away Amita and her supporters, who wanted to see more modern changes and improvements.[2]

Far Cry 4[]

Amita's first appearance is after Ajay Ghale and Sabal return from De Pleur's compound. Amita doesn't agree with Sabal's choice to risk their lives to go after Ajay, as she doesn't particularly care about Mohan's legacy; she's especially angered by Sabal's decision to leave Darpan behind, snapping at Ajay and leaving with Bhadra in tow.

« We're in the middle of a fucking war. We don't have time for tourists. »

Amita to Sabal, re. Ajay's mission to find Lakshmana.

Ajay later returns to talk to Amita; she is teaching Bhadra to defend herself with a bow, despite Sabal's disapproval. Amita apologizes for being rude and states she was stressed because of the strains of the war. Ajay offers to help them. After the player completes her mission (collecting wolf pelts for Kanan) as well as Sabal's, the rest of the map is unlocked. From then on the player can choose to side with Amita or Sabal across various campaign missions.

Fate[]

« Go on. Son of Mohan. Savior of Kyrat! Follow your orders, pull the trigger! I'm sure it's the will of Kyra! »

Amita, urging Ajay to shoot her under Sabal's orders (Determinant)

If the player sides with Sabal:[]

In the mission To Reap What You Sow, Sabal will order Ajay to kill Amita, arguing that she is "just another Pagan" and has no respect for her heritage. Upon arriving at Amita's hideout and dispatching her followers, Ajay walks into the house and confronts Amita, who is typing some documents on a typewriter. She is surprised that Sabal sent Ajay specifically to kill her. Cynically, Ajay remarks: "Who else pulls the trigger around here?"

Amita criticizes him for being Sabal's puppet, following his blind faith and tradition without question. She implies that she thought better of Ajay - "I actually believed you when you said all you wanted to do was honour your mother's dying wish." - and mocks the notion that he can save Kyrat due to being Mohan's son. She then tells him to follow through with his orders and pull the trigger, sarcastically claiming that it is the will of Kyra.

  • If the player decides to shoot Amita, she picks up the folder with her documents and slumps back on the chair; after a few moments, she drops the folder and succumbs to the wound.
  • If the player decides not to shoot Amita, she picks up her folder and walks away in anger, telling Ajay that while he is saving her life, he is killing Kyrat.

Regardless of the choice here against Amita, Sabal steps into power.

If the player sides with Amita:[]

In the mission To Reap What You Sow, Amita will order Ajay to kill Sabal. She argues that he will split the Golden Path, and his death will prevent another civil war. Upon arriving at Sabal's hideout, Ajay walks into the house and confronts Sabal, who is performing a small religious ritual at his desk. Sabal repeatedly insults and undermines Amita's leadership and views, to make the player question their choice of siding with her; he tells Ajay that she will turn Kyrat into an oppressive totalitarian drug state no different than Pagan's. He even implies that Ishwari would be disappointed in her son:

« Do you think this is the country your mother wanted her ashes to be scattered in? »

Sabal to Ajay, re. Amita's plans for Kyrat (player determined)

Sabal then closes his eyes and tells Ajay to make his choice.

  • If the player decides to pull the trigger, Ajay shoots Sabal in the head.
  • If the player decides not to shoot Sabal, Ajay tells him to go. Sabal takes his Kukri and drops it on the ground, telling Ajay: "Gone, brother, gone."

Regardless of the choice here against Sabal, Amita steps into power.

Revelations from Pagan Min on Amita's leadership:[]

In the mission Confront Pagan, after storming the Royal Palace, and if the player spares Pagan, Ajay will sit down at the dining table across from him. As Pagan eats, he asks Ajay if he has already killed either Amita or Sabal; regardless of the player's choice, he tells him that he already knows the answer. Pagan says that Ajay is only giving away his country to Sabal or Amita, as he intended to crown Ajay as the new leader of Kyrat, and even encourages Ajay to kill the remaining leader and take back his power: "You're half way there. One down, one to go. Not that I want to put ideas into your head. But at least now we know you have a taste for doing what it takes."

If Ajay kills Pagan as he eats at the table:[]

If the player doesn't choose to sit down and kills Pagan as he is eating, the message will appear that "The King is Dead". Later on, Ajay will call Amita (if the player chose to put her in power), to inform her that Pagan is dead. Amita will ask him if he "found Lakshmana". Ajay will respond that he doesn't know what that means, but it isn't important. Amita will answer that all that matters is that Kyrat is free and that they can rebuild it together as a unified people.

The Outcome if Amita is the leader:[]

If Amita was chosen to lead the Golden Path, there will be a secret post-Confront Pagan cutscene featuring her in Tirtha. She is shown ordering her followers into houses to conscript every child they find as soldiers for the Golden Path, even threatening their parents with death and holding the children at gunpoint. When Ajay questions her, she claims it to be a necessary evil for creating a new Kyrati state and maintaining peace.. The implication is Kyrat will likely become a totalitarian drug state running on forced labor and fear, with no more freedom than under Pagan Min.

Ajay, suspicious, asks how Bhadra feels about this. Amita claims that she 'sent her away' where Sabal's followers cannot find her, since she doesn't want a Tarun Matara for her traditionalist political enemies to rally behind. It is implied that she had Bhadra killed.

« Don't bother trying to find her. Bhadra's not coming back. »

Amita to Ajay.

As Amita walks away, Ajay has one last choice: to leave her alone and in control, or to kill her. Killing her has no impact on gameplay - but if Sabal is still alive, NPC dialogue in Utkarsh/Banapur shows that he seizes power after her death. If both Sabal and Amita are killed, the fate of Kyrat is unknown.

The Alternate Starting Route:[]

If Ajay stays with Pagan Min and Paul "De Pleur" Harmon from the start, it's unknown how would Amita and the rest of the Golden Path react when Pagan Min named Ajay his heir, as Ajay is the son of their very founders, Mohan Ghale and Ishwari Ghale. In theory, it can just be assumed that the Golden Path just dies off and loses the war without Ajay leading them to victory.

Personality and Traits[]

Amita is more practical-minded than Sabal - she is more concerned with the economical state of Kyrat and what will come after the war is over. She's highly motivated, but prefers to direct others to carry out her commands for her, understanding that she is most powerful as a commanding force. For instance, she orders Ajay to take out artillery for her instead of directly evacuating Utkarsh herself, which turns out very well if executed properly by the player. She's can be incredibly brave and strong-willed, as she is able to withstand the traditional sexism and gender roles she faces from her culture and people[3] as a female leader of the Golden Path, and is courageous enough to go looking for Ajay herself in dangerously cold conditions when he goes missing post-Durgesh. She is highly intelligent but also able to persuade people using their emotions,

Later in the game, her darker side begins to show. She can become a ruthless totalitarian who uses fear of violence to coerce others.[4] The end of the game parallels Sabal with Mohan and Amita with Pagan, and insinuates that the cycle of violence in the country started by Pagan and Mohan is repeated via Amita and Sabal.

Trivia[]

  • As Ajay helps her gaining more power, she began showing her true color, to the point of blatantly behaving like Pagan Min and warning others to take their words seriously, as both are being very particular with their words.
  • Unlike Mohan who married a 13 year old Ishwari, both Pagan Min and Amita are disgusted by child marriage, and therefore both want to crush the backward traditions that allow child marriage to be arranged and even endorsed by Kyrat religious leaders. Both Pagan Min and Amita want to vandalize Jalendu Temple as a result.
  • If the player sides with Sabal but decides not to kill Amita, after the end of the game, Amita can be found at the Sherpa Yak Enclosure on the top of the mountain north of Banapur, but cannot be interacted with, and is treated by the game as simply a regular civilian NPC. She may also be found here even if Ajay did kill her, though this is a glitch.
  • Amita and Bhadra both feature the same pink and turquoise colours in their outfits. This may be a deliberate choice on behalf of the developers to link them together as characters, which makes Amita's secret Tirtha cutscene even more shocking.
