The Colt M1911, commonly known as the Colt .45, and simply the 1911 is an American-made, semi-automatic, recoil-operated handgun chambered in .45 ACP designed by John Browning and initially adopted by the United States military in the year 1911 (hence the designation, Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911). The legacy of the handgun, combined with over a century of relevant usage, has made the 1911 a famous gun of its own merit.

Far Cry 3Edit

“A classic .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun that can be used while on a Zipline. It is a solid all-around performer at short range, and can be fitted with a sound suppressor.[sic]
In-Game Handbook
Far Cry 3

“Talk about a classic as American as apple pie and immigration fences, this .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol has been in use worldwide for more than 100 years. Fortunately, the ones found on Rook Island aren’t cheap Chinese knock-offs. These custom 1911s purchased by a local big shot for his private army are virtually identical to those used by some U.S. Special Ops teams.”
Survival Guide

The 1911 is a handgun in Far Cry 3 and the first obtainable firearm in the game, costing only $60 and capable of being purchased as soon as the player arrives in Amanaki. It replaces the role the Star .45 filled in Far Cry 2.

The 1911 sports moderate damage & accuracy, and a quick reload time, but a small magazine size. It is the only pistol that does not accept attachments, but can be customized with skins. It can kill a regular enemy in roughly 3 to 4 hits, but is, like most handguns, a bad choice for hunting large animals. Its biggest drawback compared to other pistols is that it cannot be suppressed, while the 6P9 can be fitted with a suppressor.

“A customized 1911 with a larger magazine, silencer, and custom paint. Enhanced for accuracy and stealth.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 3

The answer to the problem of the 1911 not having attachments, the 1911 "Shadow" features not only a suppressor, but an extended magazine and a red dot sight as well.

It becomes available for purchase by liberating 17 of the Outposts in the game. The Shadow is quite expensive, being priced at $2,600 in the gun shop. It has a much higher accuracy than the standard 1911, almost reaching that of a sniper rifle. This, and the included silencer and red dot sight makes it perfect for silent and quick kills, even at medium range.

Far Cry 4Edit

Appearing again in Far Cry 4, the 1911 returns as a sidearm-capable semi-automatic handgun.

“Standard-issue for the U.S. military for over 70 years, this dependable classic may look big and heavy, but it's got accuracy and power.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 4

The 1911 can be obtained by soldiers or rebels inside a vehicle by killing them or it can be bought in stores after the mission City of Pain. Oddly, Longinus gives it for free upon liberating 13 Bell Towers, while it can be obtained as early as the first encounter with vehicle enemies near the bell tower in the Prologue, and is rendered obsolete at the earliest point of free-giving (northern Kyrat).

It has the same stats as in Far Cry 3 but with a different appearance, and it becomes Ajay's weapon of choice during cutscenes from Shoot the Messenger onward. The 1911 is an effective pistol and one worth carrying early on, and unlike in Far Cry 3, it can mount an attachment, either being a Night Sight or an Extended Magazine. It is capable of killing a Royal Army Beheader in 2 shots up close and 3 at a distance.

“Take the 1911 and rig it for stealth with a suppressor, optics and reworked guts to land you this silent, accurate, and highly reliable sidearm.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 4

The Sandman is the signature version of the 1911 in Far Cry 4. It is unlocked only ownership of the game's season pass, at which point the weapon will be unlocked once the player can access the shops in the beginning of the game. It comes with a red dot sight and suppressor.

Far Cry 5Edit

The 1911 features heavily in Far Cry 5, with many variants to choose from.

“Death, taxes and the 1911. The design of this American made semi automatic hasn't changed since WWI.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

The 1911 returns in Far Cry 5, and is the first handgun The Junior Deputy will acquire, having obtained one in the prologue and will either find or be given one by Dutch soon after.

“This 1911 has that retro vintage authentic bomber feel.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

Like the other variants, The Shark is statistically identical, but sports a wartime-era shark mouth paint scheme similar to the M79, AR-C, and AR-CL variants.

“One good headshot from this chrome 1911 pistol and you'll be buttering up your target for breakfast.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

Decked out in engraved chrome, Toaster is flashy, albeit a bit more subtle about it.

“This 1911 Extended pistol is powerful, ostentatious, and perfect for the flashy millennial in us all.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

If the Toaster is the Alpha, the Golden Aerie is the Omega of flashy; with an extended barrel, a gold-plated finish, and a bald eagle and American flag painted on the slide.

“A reliable 1911 with a [sic] aerial color scheme. Shooting for the sky will be that much easier with this.”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

With flight-style racing patterns, the Aerial Force is perfect for the pilot.

Aerial Force can be obtained through ownership of the Deluxe Edition.

“This 1911 has a red bold[sic] color scheme that screams "I knew this was going to happen!"”
In-Game Description
Far Cry 5

Decked out in a bold red and black colour pattern similar to the outfit from the same pack, Doomsday Prepper is perfect for those who want to be noticed, and want those they shoot to notice it was them.

Doomsday Prepper can be obtained through ownership of the Deluxe Edition.

  • The 1911 can be compared to the Star .45 (Star Model-P) from Far Cry 2.
  • This is the only gun to have the "Fierce" paint job in Far Cry 3, whereas in Far Cry 4, there are several weapons that have the available paint job.
  • Even though the description says it can be silenced, the normal 1911 cannot accept any attachments in Far Cry 3, unless used in multiplayer.
    • It is not known why the ability to customize the weapon was removed, though the description alone means attachments could be used on the 1911 at some point in Far Cry 3's development, although they do appear on the "Shadow".
  • The 1911 can be seen with a mounting rail when used by Dennis and Vaas in Far Cry 3, and later by Ajay as he confronts Noore in Far Cry 4.
    • Interestingly, the version Jason uses to threaten the hellicopter pilot after being captured by Vaas also has this rail, as do most NPC versions of the pistol in-game. The rail simply vanishes upon switching back to gameplay.
  • The 1911 is based off Kimber Warrior and it is featured in Far Cry 3 to Far Cry 4. On Far Cry 5, it is based on the Smith & Wesson SW1911.
  • In Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 5, the rail mounting is not present when there are no optics installed; while customized with optics the rail is present.
  • The "Doomsday Prepper" 1911 in Far Cry 5 was originally part of the Pre-Order bonus pack of the same name. It was later given to all owners of the Season Pass in a periodic content pack.
  • In Far Cry 5 title update six, a bug was introduced that removed all DLC bonus weapons, including the Doomsday Prepper and Aerial Force variants of the 1911 to disappear from the game after respawning or fast traveling. Exiting the story mode and reloading it would fix the issue until the next time the player died or fast traveled.
    • This bug was fixed a few weeks later in Title Update 7.[1]
  • In the Hours of Darkness expansion for Far Cry 5, a modified version of the 1911 can be found near the far end of Colonel Loc's bunker, pre-fitted with a suppressor. Its location relatively close to the start of the expansion makes it an easy to obtain stealth-capable weapon that is useful for maintaining the stealth-based perk system of Hours of Darkness
    • A similarly modified suppressed MP40 can be found in another part of the same bunker, allowing Cowboy to obtain two suppressed weapons early in the expansion.
  • The description of the base 1911 in Far Cry 5 making reference to death and taxes as part of the analogy is a reference to the phrase originally written by Daniel Defoe in his 1726 book The Political History of the Devil and later paraphrased by founding father Benjamin Franklin in a 1789 letter: "but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."[2]
